Littlefinders visit a Fire Station – free activity!

By July 7, 2017 No Comments

Littlefinders and our Emergency Services – the lights, the uniforms, the sirens… they are just drawn to it, right?!

Today our Littlefinders visited the MFB branch at Oakleigh Fire Station for a tour and demonstration of the facility – and I’ve got to say it was one of the best FREE activities we have done in ages!

Conveniently timed in the morning, our Littlefinders were super eager to get in the station, their faces were smushed on the front windows as they ogled the huge shiny engines waiting inside.

Once we were all ushered inside the Littlefinders were all given helmets and jackets (basically they were in heaven) and a brief lesson on fire safety and some Q&A with a few of the lovely fire fighters and their excited students.

Then it was out into the engine bays for some real action!

All the kids were given ample opportunity to spray the hoses.. the firefighters were patient and attentive, asking the kids names and helping them spray the carpark (and a few cars!)

Each Littlefinder was also given the chance to sit up in the front of an engine and press some buttons – the screaming siren was a real winner – my ears are still ringing!!

It was all done in an hour, but it was a wonderfully memorable morning, all the smiles were evidence of that.

To get more info and see when a station in your local area is open check out the MFB Facebook page or their website here . You do have to book in advance, there are set numbers for each session, however there was only about 30 kids/adults in total for our session which was fantastic.

Thanks so much to the crew at Oakleigh Fire station – they do a great job day in and day out and today was proof of that – they could not have been friendlier. A free school holiday activity winner!!!
