One thing we love to do here at Littlefinders is support and encourage mums, especially in small and local business. Its a complex task to juggle your family and a small business. The path is rather scary, sure it can be rewarding but it’s a hard slog. So when we heard that a local mum was taking the plunge and running her first session of creative play for kids – enough said, we were in….
Appropriately held in the beautiful Shirley Burke Theatre, Parkdale – our Littlefinders were welcomed into The Fox box “Creative Corner for Kids” session by Helen Collins, a local mum of two with a passion for imaginative activities.
The room was quiet and calm, the Littlefinders were immediately captivated by the various stations around the room. Helen had insured there was something for all the children, from the babies who mushed the paint pads (sealed bags of paint taped to backing boards) to the older kids learning the joys of a hole puncher to make their own swiss cheese.
The Pizza making table was a hit, yellow paper plates were used as the base and were decorated by our Littlefinders with a range of ‘toppings’ like cheese, salami and veggies. My Littlefinder was so thrilled with his creations that he proudly carried them around the room and they were brought home to present to Dad for dinner.
The actives were all creative and interesting and yet surprisingly mess free, this was a revelation to me – I thought creative = mess. And to be honest I had a phobia of creative anything at my house, as I thought it only led to play dough in the carpet and paint on .. well everything…
But Helen had been clever – she had planned out great littles stations that worked with fine motor skills, colours and textures, all without anything getting on the carpet. I was impressed.
