Littlefinders at Mess Matters

By June 7, 2017 No Comments

Messy play – its one of those things that you love for your Littlefinders to experience – but you don’t really want to be doing at home…

Awaking and engaging the senses is so incredibly satisfying for children. Sure you can let the kids soak in a bath full of bubbles, or give them some chalk to draw on the pavement  – but a chance to go wild, really get down and messy? Well thats an opportunity that all Littlefinders should have and none should pass up!

This week my Littlefinder was lucky enough to attend Mess Matters in Moorabbin, and he had the best hour of messy, sensory fun he’s had in ages!

My Littlefinder was greeted at the door with a big welcoming smile by the lovely IIana & Ruth.
He was quickly kitted out in a bright red smock and after a basic run down on the stations he was let loose.

He dove into the multicoloured sand, pouring it from cup to sifter with great joy. He then moved to a tub of bright thick blue foam, housing some small dinosaurs, which he squished one by one deeper into their foamy home.

Next to a huge tub of warm water – he splished and splashed with absolute joy – so much so that another Littlefinder quickly joined him and soon both were soaked and giggling.

My Littlefinder moved from station to station, generally with a tentative look at first, but with a little encouragement and demonstration from me he was in, painting, squishing, pouring and more.

With three staff on the floor each station is quickly cleared and reset after each child moves on so the next child has a fresh space to play – this small detail is greatly appreciated. Artworks can be named and placed on the drying racks for collection the following week. There are also some smocks for the parents, two big washing up sinks and bathroom facilities.

Mess Matters caters for all ages and capabilities, they proudly welcome and encourage kids with special needs – I’m told allowing them to encounter different sensory activities is great for their development. Mess Matters also host a seriously good birthday party, think endless art supplies and two facilitators on hand to help maximise creative opportunities.

My messy Littlefinder came home and slept for two hours, with a hint of green paint in his hair and his ‘Mess Matters’ sticker still stuck on his chubby little hand.
