Our Littlefinders needed to get out, these school holidays have not been kind to us, colds have kept us pretty housebound. So on Wednesday we decided that it was time to do something fun and in the fresh air.
When we saw Mornington Railway were hosting a special ‘Superhero’ day we knew it was the activity for us!
The Mooroduc to Mornington railway is a true original. The carriages have been running up and down the line for much longer than our Littlefinders could count. Apparently they used to take horses and drop them up near the Mornington Racecourse. A horse on a train? That thought had all the kids giggling..
We arrived to see a huge ‘Spiderman’ themed bouncy castle set up – what a winner! The kids had a great chance to bounce out some energy before boarding. Then Spiderman himself arrived and little minds were blown! He was friendly and funny and the kids were in total awe of him.
So the train – the anticipation, the sounds and the steam were so fantastic. As were all the staff – they all genuinely enjoy sharing the trains with the kids. The facilities are great – easy parking, clean bathrooms, a gift shop and simple cafe – sausage in bread? Yes please!
The trip is great for kids of all ages but I felt it was particularly great for the young kids. Firstly the carriages are safe, they can pop their heads out the windows but not get too far out of reach. Also the trip is fun, but not too long. If you add a picnic after your trip and a play in the nearby playgrounds then you certainly have hours of entertainment. But for the little ones who might still need a nap they can really enjoy the whole trip but not miss nap time.
